Ukraine, Russia begin ceasefire in Oleshky
A humanitarian ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia around the city of Oleshky took effect on Tuesday, Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets said on social media. The truce began at 3 am Kyiv time as part of a previously agreed humanitarian mission, Lubinets said, adding that the Ukrainian side is honoring its commitments under the deal. Russia's Defense Ministry confirmed that Russian forces had ceased fire in the Kherson direction and a "silence regime" had been introduced from 4 am Moscow time to prepare for the humanitarian operation near Oleshky. The town, located on the left bank of the Dnieper River, is currently under Russian control. It has been experiencing worsening shortages of food and other essential supplies amid continuous fighting.

Carney says US moving closer to trade demands
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said on Monday that trade talks with US President Donald Trump's administration have picked up slightly, but any progress is because Washington is moving closer to Canada's demands. The comments come eight days before United States midterm elections, with White House economic adviser Kevin Hassett suggesting the countries are close to a deal. "To the extent any progress has been made, it's because the US is coming closer to our position," Carney said. Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc's office said Canada remains in "constructive dialogue" with Washington. Carney described a "slight, slight intensification" of discussions but said Canada's negotiating position remained unchanged.
