Chinese mainland shares close mixed

Chinese mainland stocks closed mixed on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.01 percent at 4027.21 points. The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.97 percent lower at 14498.45 points.

Yuan strengthens against greenback

The central parity rate of the Chinese currency renminbi, or the yuan, strengthened 11 pips to 6.8582 against the US dollar on Wednesday, said the China Foreign Exchange Trade System. In China's spot foreign exchange market, the yuan is allowed to rise or fall by 2 percent from the central parity rate each trading day.
