40,000 shot in 2025, 14,600 deaths logged
At least 40,000 people were shot in the United States in 2025, including more than 14,600 deaths and over 26,100 injuries, according to preliminary statistics released on Thursday by the Gun Violence Archive. This means that, on average, more than 110 people were killed or injured by gun violence per day last year. The country saw at least 407 mass shooting incidents in 2025, according to the archive.

122 evacuated as smoke fills jet cabin
A total of 122 people, including passengers and crew members, were evacuated on Friday as smoke filled the cabin of a passenger jet in South Korea's airport, according to Yonhap news agency. The unidentified smoke flowed into the cabin of a Jin Air aircraft, which was scheduled to fly from the international airport in Jeju to Pohang. The smoke was believed to have been caused by a defect in the auxiliary power unit located in the tail section of the plane.

Polluted water kills 9, hospitalizes over 200
At least nine people have died and more than 200 have been �6�9hospitalized in the central Indian city of Indore after a diarrhea outbreak that officials said �6�9 �6�9was linked to contaminated drinking water, Reuters reported on Friday. Indore's chief medical officer, Madhav Prasad Hasani, said drinking water in the Bhagirathpur area of the city was contaminated due to a leak, and a water test had confirmed the presence of bacteria in the pipeline.

Saudi warplanes strike STC positions
Saudi warplanes on Friday carried out airstrikes targeting positions held by the Southern Transitional Council in Yemen's southeastern oil-rich province of Hadramout, as fierce clashes broke out on the ground, a military official told Xinhua. Speaking on condition of anonymity, the official of STC forces said the airstrikes coincided with heavy fighting between STC forces and the Saudi-backed Yemeni forces in several areas of the province.
