Fire-safety net in scorching heat
Chinese railway operators are assessing fire risks amid the record-high temperatures hitting many parts of the country. In Shanxi province, the Houma signaling and telecommunications section of China Railway Taiyuan Group has launched an "inspection-while-drilling" campaign to shore up fire prevention, targeting hazards at the source. Employees started a full-coverage check on offices, dormitories, warehouses and equipment rooms, as well as full reviews of extinguishers, alarms, emergency exits and evacuation routes, for any hidden hazards. They also conducted drills on "self-rescue, escape and protection", doing their utmost to safeguard the normal running of trains.
