Premier to attend opening of AIIB annual meeting

Premier Li Qiang will attend and address the opening of the 10th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank in Beijing on Thursday, the Foreign Ministry announced on Tuesday.

Since its founding in 2015, the AIIB has become an important new member of the global system of multilateral development institutions, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun.

This year's annual meeting will review the AIIB's achievements over the past 10 years and outline its development direction for the next decade, and China looks forward to working with various parties to support the continued growth of the AIIB, Guo said.

China also looks to make greater contributions to Asia's infrastructure and connectivity, sustainable growth and a better global governance system, he added.

Vice-president calls for enhanced SCO cooperation

China is ready to enhance cooperation with member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in capacity building in order to further give play to the organization's role in safeguarding security and stability, Vice-President Han Zheng said on Tuesday.

Han made the remarks when meeting with heads of foreign delegations attending the 20th meeting of the security council secretaries of the SCO, which was held in Beijing.

China is willing to work with the SCO member states to uphold multilateralism and achieve lasting security, adhere to the spirit of the rule of law, pursue mutual benefits, adhere to equality and solidarity, and realize joint governance, he said.

Secretary of the Security Council of Kazakhstan Gizat Nurdauletov and Alexander Volfovich, state secretary of the Security Council of Belarus, as representatives of the foreign delegations, expressed high appreciation of China's role as the SCO's rotating chair, and stressed willingness to address security challenges through cooperation.
