Zhong Xindi, daughter of Red Army martyr Zhong Yanzhu, holds a portrait of her father on Wednesday in Ruijin, Jiangxi province. The portrait was created by students from Anhui Normal University in Anhui province and other colleges as part of an initiative to draw faces of over 100 martyrs with Ruijin origins who fell on the Chinese Red Army's Long March — an epic strategic retreat from 1934 to 1936. The project, led by Ye Qinghua — also a Red Army martyr descendant — began in 2021 and uses hand-drawing and artificial intelligence technology to help martyrs' families see the faces of their ancestors.
