Ranger Zhang Shuyan feeds milk to Zuozuo, a barking deer he rescued, in May 2022.

Zhang interacts with Zuozuo on Wednesday during an unexpected reunion with the deer in the Tianmu Mountain-Qingliang Peak nature reserve in Zhejiang province. Upon seeing Zhang, the young, solitary deer approached and interacted closely with him before disappearing into the forest. In 2022, Zhang rescued the deer, named it Zuozuo and spent more than 80 days caring for it before releasing it back into the wild.
