Senior Chongqing official under probe

Lu Kehua, former vice-mayor of Chongqing, is currently under investigation by the country's top anti-graft body on suspicion of severely violating Party disciplines and national laws. Lu, secretary of the commission for political and legal affairs in Chongqing and a member of the Standing Committee of the Chongqing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, is being investigated by the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision, according to a statement released on Monday. Born in October 1964, he began working at the Ministry of Housing and Rural-Urban Development. He was appointed vice-mayor of Chongqing in 2018.

Arrest sought of former Guangxi vice-chairman

The Supreme People's Procuratorate has ordered the arrest of Qin Rupei, former vice-chairman of the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, who is accused of taking bribes. Qin's case was investigated by the National Commission of Supervision before being handed over to prosecutors, the SPP said in a statement on Monday. Before his arrest, Qin had been expelled from the Communist Party of China and dismissed from public office for seriously violating Party disciplines and national laws.

Huge manganese deposit found in Hunan

Chinese geologists have uncovered a huge manganese deposit in central China, with its overall potential reserve estimated to exceed 200 million metric tons, the Geophysical and Geochemical Survey Institute of Hunan province said Friday. About 84 million tons of manganese ore deposits have already been discovered in the Qiyang-Lingling Basin of Yongzhou, Hunan. Researchers have also found a substantial manganese ore body with significant industrial potential following recent drilling at a depth of over 1,016 meters in the basin.
