The Wuhan Caidian eco-city project.
China is implementing strong measures, for the benefit of the climate, air and water quality. The nation is pushing the effort of "building an ecological civilization" to support eco-cities, especially this project which is one of the most advanced.
The extension of the city of Wuhan gives way to more qualitative long-term investment policies: putting back at the heart of the reflection the spatial organization of the city and its urban fabric, the energy efficiency of buildings, giving priority to non-polluting modes of transport. Participating in this national ambition, the Franco-Chinese ecocity project is entirely based on this fundamental issue of respect and the enhancement of the environment in the service of the quality of life for the inhabitants.
The buildings are grouped in high density clusters around the metro stations crossing the site, but keeping the north part untouched to let full place to the local existing agriculture and lakes. It is a way to let north-south green corridors pass through the built areas to increase the biodiversity connections. Every built cluster is planned as an ecodistrict, it integrates objectives of sustainable development and social equity, to reduce the district's ecological footprint. A diversified mix of functions in a comfortable pedestrian walking distance helps to reduce the need of transportation.
The Wuhan Caidian eco-city project supports the metropolitan ambition of a public investment and the effort provided by private actors within a framework emphasizing high value-added services, economy knowledge, culture, technological innovation, and so on. The Franco-Chinese eco-city is the showcase of the economic conversion of Wuhan towards a neutral carbon economy.
